Billy Creek Campgrounds

Two campgrounds rest along Billy Creek at the northwestern end of Huntington Lake in the Sierra National Forest. Recently upgraded, Lower Billy Creek Campground is on the lakeshore in a forest of pine and fir trees. Every campsite has a lake view.

Upper Billy Creek Campground is just across the road in a forest of pine, fir, and cedar trees. Some sites at the upper campground have lake views, others overlook Billy Creek. Visitors to the area enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, and relaxing in the fresh mountain air.

Lower Billy Creek Campground has 12 sites, all of which can accommodate RVs, trailers, and tents. Upper Billy Creek Campground has 43 campsites. Twelve of them are designated for tents only; the rest can accommodate RVs, trailers, and tents. In the summer, interpretive programs are offered at the Upper Billy Creek amphitheater.

Before entering a campsite, campers are asked to check in at the Eastwood CLM office located at the east end of Huntington Lake.

Attractions near Billy Creek Campgrounds: Huntington Lake is popular for boating, waterskiing, sailing, fishing, swimming, kayaking, and more. Enjoy hiking trails into the Kaiser Wilderness. At the west end of lake visit Billy Creek Guard Station Museum which provides historical overviews of Huntington Lake, Native Americans and the Forest Service. Lakeshore Resort offers lodging, restaurant, saloon, store, marina, and boat rentals. Local hiking trails include Rancheria Falls (1 mile), Indian Pools (1 mile) and Black Point (.7 miles).

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. If using a reservation website, check to be sure your vehicles will fit in the parking space for your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, obtain firewood locally.

Designated Accessible sites are usually reserved for people with disabilities who have a vehicle displaying an accessible parking placard or license plate

Edison, Florence Lake, Huntington Lake, and Shaver Lake. Campers at Billy Creek Campgrounds at Huntington Lake are close to rewarding fishing, scenic boating, and interesting hiking.

Key Billy Creek Campground Regulations

  1. While in the campground dogs must be on leash and always attended.
  2. Quiet time is from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
  3. To avoid bringing in invasive pests, outside firewood is not permitted. Obtain firewood locally.
  4. Keep food and other scented items in bear-proof lockers or canisters.
