Attractions and Activities

Death Valley is more than just the lowest point in the United States. The valley is surrounded with breathtaking peaks, fascinating geologic formations, and interesting attractions. Most visitors plan their trips to Death Valley for the cooler seasons. Summer is not the best time to come as temperatures can reach 120 degrees. Those who camp at Furnace Creek Campground most often use it as a base from which to explore the park.

  • Golden Canyon has a 2-mile round-trip trail or a 4-mile loop starting at Badwater Road.
  • Artist's Drive takes visitors through volcanic and sedimentary hills with amazing colors, especially nice late in the day.
  • The Devil's Golf Course is a expansive area of rock salt eroded by rain and wind into jagged spires.
  • Natural Bridge is huge rock span reached by a short ½-mile walk off Badwater Road.
  • Badwater is the lowest place in North America, 282 feet below sea level.
  • Harmony Borax Works includes adobe ruins and an old wagon trail left from the days of the Twenty Mule Teams.
  • Zabriskie Point overlooks eroded terrain and colorful badlands.
  • Scotty's Castle was built in the 1920s and today the park offers tours of the castle's richly furnished interior. (2015 floods damaged the castle and it will be closed until 2021.)

Key Furnace Creek Campground Regulations
